Niyazi Beki (Assistant Professor Doctor)



He was born in Gözer village of the city of Bingöl in 1953. He learned Arabic, Persian, fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), tafsir (interpretation of the Quran), hadith (words of the Prophet), logic and other Islamic sciences. 

He went to elementary school in Üçpınar village of the city of Bingöl. After attending Bingöl High School and finishing Muş Religious High School, he graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Theology in 1984. 

He did his master's degree at Marmara University Social Sciences Institute of Tafsir and Hadith Department with his hadith book thesis called “as-Sulami and Kitabu’l-Arbain li’s-Sufiyya” (1990). 

He did his doctor's degree with his thesis called “Yirminci Asır Türkiyesi’nde Tefsirde İşaratü’l-İcaz örneği” (the Example of Signs of Miraculousness in Tafsir in the Twentieth Century in Turkey) at Sakarya University Social Sciences Institute of Tafsir Department. He worked as an official at Bingöl Health Directorate between 1976 and 1980. 

Then, he worked as an imam (1981-1988) and as a preacher (1988-93) for the Presidency of Religious Affairs. He started to work at Sakarya University Faculty of Theology in 1993; he is currently working at the Department of Arab Language and Rhetoric there.  

The first work of Beki, called Namazın Sayısal Mucizesi (Digital Miracle of Prayer), was published in 1996 and his second work called Kur’an İlimleri ve Tefsir Açısından Bediüzzaman Said Nursi ‘nin Eserleri (Works of Badiuzzaman Said Nursi in terms of Quranic Sciences and Tafsir)  was published in 1999. He was a member of the committee that translated the tafsir called “Fi Zilali’l-Qur’an”. 

He also wrote reviews and articles in various periodicals regarding Islamic sciences. He still writes articles for some periodicals. He has four children; he can speak English, Arabic and Persian.
