Murat Sarıcık (Prof. Dr.)



He was born in Küçükköy, a village in Korkuteli, Antalya in 1956. He finished elementary school in his village and graduated from Antalya Religious High School in 1975. He graduated from Atatürk University Faculty of Islamic Sciences in 1980. He started to work as an assistant at Erzurum Higher Islamic Institute in 1981. 

He started to work as an academician at Atatürk University Faculty of Theology, Department of the History of Islamic Institutions in 1983. He started to do his doctorate at Social Sciences Institute of the same university in 1984. 

He became a doctor by completing his thesis called “Osmanlı İmparatorluğunda Nakîbü’l-Eşraflık Müessesesi” (the Institution of the Leadership of the Prophet's Descendants in the Ottoman Empire) in 1989. 

He became an associate professor in 1992 at the Department of “History of Islam”. He was appointed as an associate professor to Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Theology, Department of History and Arts of Islam in 1993; and he became the head of that department. 

He is currently teaching graduate and undergraduate students:
"First Period Islamic History",
"Islamic History",
“History of the Expansion of Islam”, 
“Pre-Islamic History”, 
“Ottoman Turkish Civilization”, 
“Customs and Traditions in the Ottoman Community”,
“History of Ottoman Culture”,
“Islamic Civilization”, 
“Ottoman Turkish”, 
“Arabic Historical Texts”. 

He can speak German, Arabic and Persian. He is married with four children.
