Is there any need for religious education?

The first human being is Adam (PBUH) and he is the first prophet. The history of religion starts with the history of humanity. The religion before Allah is Islam. (Al-i Imran Surah, 3:19) The faith system is the same in all religions that Allah (SWT) has sent to humanity. There are differences in their ways of worship, rules and regulations.

Prophets are conveyers of the divine religions. The same mission is now on the shoulders of scholars. Each Muslim must learn at least basic Islamic teachings. In Islam there is no a conception such as priest or rabbi, but rather religious scholar. Each Muslim is a man of his/her religion anyway.

Religion is a system of sacred values. There are so many things in religion of which every human being can make use. For example, the system of faith that forms the essence of the religion leads us to the metaphysics. Worship informs us about our obligations towards Allah (SWT). Knowing what is forbidden and what is permitted provide our life with stability. Islamic symbols (ways of behaviors) constitute our common usages. To hold these symbols in esteem is an embodiment of piety. Such (is his state): and whoever holds in honor the Symbols of Allah, (in the sacrifice of animals), such (honor) should come truly from piety of heart. (Al-Hajj Surah, 22:32)

Religious education does not necessarily lead to meddling in the individuals conscience. Individuals are free in being pious after having known the pillars of their religion. Because There is no compulsion in religion (Al-Baqarah Surah, 2:256) But it is inevitable to be some obligations for those who say, I am Muslim. For example, a young person not enrolled in the school cannot be called to account for not attending the classes at school. But those who are students have to be held responsible for their absenteeism.
