The Youth Fearing From Allah
In a hadith, the glorious Prophet (PBUH) said, “If it were not for the youth fearing Allah, innocent animals and helpless elderly people among you, calamities would flood onto you.” (Kashful Khafa, 2:163)
In this hadith, there is severe warning as well as good news. According to this, the three aforementioned mentioned things in the hadith is a cause of averting calamities. The youth who fear Allah and thus avoid committing sins, pure animals that submit to the will of Allah and helpless elders who look like children attract the mercy and compassion of Allah. Thus, mercy and compassion of Allah appear instead of calamities that come like flood despite the denial, rebellion, mistakes and sins of some other people.
According to what we understand from other riwayahs, giving alms and serving Islam also prevent troubles and calamities. So, the youth who fear Allah and avoid sins, who tend to gain rewards and worship by controlling their feelings become effective like giving alms.
According to what we understand from other riwayahs, giving alms and serving Islam also prevent troubles and calamities. So, the youth who fear Allah and avoid sins, who tend to gain rewards and worship by controlling their feelings become effective like giving alms.
The following can be said here: A youth is already supposed to avoid sins and tend towards worship; so what is wisdom behind the fact that they are as effective as giving alms?
A person’s avoiding harams and inclining towards fards gain him a definite reward. However, when a young person does the same, he will have both the reward of avoiding harams, performing fards and gets an extra reward as if he has done extra deeds. More precisely, many times more rewards are given for the deeds of the youth because though their souls, feelings and desires encourage them to do mischief, they avoid committing sins by fearing Allah and tend to worship.
There are also other good results of a young person who avoids misdeeds. As a matter of fact, the glorious prophet (PBUH) gave important good news to our youth with the following hadith: “Allah makes a young person who is not interested in misdeeds superior to others.” (Faydul Qadir, v.2, p.263, no: 1799)
Nowadays, our young people are in a race with their fellows. The friends who are studying in the same school and even in the same class are in a constant race from high school examinations to university entrance examinations. In every phase of life, there is an exam for the youth and they strive to get a job or become successful in schools with one another. A young person wants to be at the top of his school; a young businessman wishes to earn more, a young sportsman wants to eliminate his competitors.
So, it is the favor of Allah that will help us in every kind of race of in this life, in which we want to become successful. The occurrence of that favor on us depends on “not being interested in misdeeds”. Any young person who is not involved in misdeeds and avoids sins will surpasses his fellows.
Otherwise, a young Muslim youth cannot become successful only by saying “I have the power of belief”. Of course, a powerful belief which is not based on words but deeds is an essential and important key to success. However, in addition to this, it is necessary to avoid misdeeds, to do good things and work hard in the field in which we compete in order to be successful.
