INTENTION

INTENTION
Intention arouses desires; having desires related to something increases attention. Increase in attention elevates the power of arrangement of that thing. Increase in the attention of a person renders that person’s job important in his life; importance enables that person to concentrate on his job. Intention is like a projector or microphone; it attracts our attention and we direct our attention to the topics that we intend to deal with. Therefore, the topic that we intend to deal with arouses our attention. Consequently, we take care of that topic and become successful. Therefore, intentions are very important in the formation of desires; good and nice intentions desire nice things; bad and evil intentions desire bad things.
Intention is a feeling that motivates man in the way of success because it arouses desire. Thanks to it, man stops thinking unilaterally and becomes a person that can solve his problems. Therefore, intention is a very important step that is related to man’s making mistakes or not, making right decisions or not and directing his life correctly or not.
Importance of Intention in Attitudes and Brain Research
Psychology researches done in recent years have shown that the element of intention is important in human behaviors. The thought “There is something wrong with my heart” or “I have allergy” indicates a brain activity rather than an attitude. We teach our brain that activity, not anybody else.
In fact, the brain is like the hardware of a computer, that is, like its magnetic parts. The brain program is the connection among the electronic circuits. It is not possible to analyze man alone by focusing on cells. There is a spirit program in our brain, which is actually our personality. In addition, it has been scientifically researched by science whether there is a managing gene in human brain or not.
While it is thought that there exists a control center that directs all connection in the brain, there are views that this center is in the frontal region of the brain. Acting upon this, science researches whether there is a spiritual reality in the form of energy band in the upper part of the brain or not. The spiritual reality, which has generally been dealt with by theologians so far, has been dealt with by psychiatry recently. However, that two disciplines are interested in the same topic should not be regarded as an indication of opposition but complementariness. While psychiatry examines the decision making mechanism and freedom of choice of man and states that the activity of the mind is related to our personality structure, theology is interested in whether there is a metaphysical influence on the activity of the brain or not.
Man According to Materialism
Pavlov’s “conditioning behavior rule” was very important in the emergence of psychology. When a dog is shown some food, the acid secretion in its stomach can be changed through conditioning; similarly, it is considered through a materialistic view that man’s attitudes changed through such conditioning and trial-error, and reached today as a necessity of evolutionist psychology. This view, which is called genetic inheritance, explains psychology like that. In this context, Freud and the other materialist philosophers he was inspired by defined man and the other living beings as beings that are interested only in their material interests. This understanding, which regards humanitarian values as factors that weaken the competitive power, stated in the period when psychology emerged that all of the values were wrong knowledge taught to man by religions and that they had to be abandoned. Freud, who is one of the representatives of the movement that regards man as a being that pursues pleasures, reduced the pleasures that formed man’s behaviors to a single one: “sexual pleasure”. Showing libido as the main locomotive of all pleasures, Freud defined “Oedipus” and “Electra” complexes acting upon Zeus in Greek mythology; he described the exchange of love between the son and the father as libidinal sexual energy. According to this view, the son thinks that his father sterilizes him and develops fury and hatred against his father.
Regarding love as an extension of sexual energy, this view does not want to consider it as separate from sexuality. If the source of love is reduced to sexuality, it becomes necessary to break its connection with creation. Freud is regarded as the representative of materialism in psychology with these views.
Redefining the concepts transferred to us by religions, Freud revised and renamed some concepts especially the knowledge evaluated within the concept “nafs” (souls). This concept, called “instinct” by him was actually defined as “the properties of the soul” by Imam Ghazzali and other Islamic scholars. Combining the basic motives in animals with those of men, Freud defined them as psychological and biological instincts and showed the differences that made man real man. The emergence of psychology as the behavior of science took place like that.
Especially the researches carried out recently have traumatized the principles of evolutional psychology; it has been noticed that man’s eating and drinking style, his tendency to speech or love did not form as a result of mutations or trial and error as it is claimed by evolutional psychology.
The chain in the thesis of Darwinism regarding coincidental existence, survival of the fittest and perishing of the weak is one of the methods used by evolutional psychology to explain humans. The development process of man up to now was tried to be explained by the following thesis of Darwin: “First, men stood up; then, they started to talk; and they all took place as a result of the mutation in man.” This thesis of evolutional psychology, which has been said for centuries to be formed through trial and error, is not scientific.  Another point that can be used as evidence that Darwinism is not valid in the development of thought is the fact that symbolic thought cannot be formed through the method of trial and error. When Churchill was asked, “Is the British navy or Shakespeare more important”, he said, “Shakespeare is more important because if the navy is destroyed you can build a new one but you cannot build a new Shakespeare.” Likewise, psychological knowledge in man did not form through trial and error but through accumulation and interaction. This knowledge enables us to understand the place of man in the universe correctly and to acquire important knowledge regarding the integrity of science in the universe.
In materialist psychology, it is claimed that every science existed on its own like other living beings; it is accepted that the harmony that came together without being aware of one another, without being designed at first and that formed a whole took place on its own. However, the thesis of the integrity of science showed that it was wrong and everything that existed progressed in the direction of integrity.
Genetic knowledge is like the unchangeable, basic operating program of the computer. Man also has a genetic operating system; and every nation and religion adapted this system differently. However, there is a common operating system in human beings that is shared by all human beings and that cannot be changed. An apple tree in Japan has the same DNA as an apple tree in Turkey; the DNA of the most primitive moss is 98% similar to that of man. This operating system did not form coincidentally. Darwinism overlooked this system.
After 1950s, the discovery of DNA wrecked the concepts of existence. In these researches, it was found that all of the program was existent in DNA and that a person’s DNA was recorded in the sperm and egg. Genotypes in which everything including a person’s height, eye color or intelligence level are fixed by birth.
